Work progresses slowly
The last week has been all about cleaning suspension parts and priming, so there’s not a lot of exciting stuff to post pictures of. The only thing left in the front is the centre steering rod and its links, but it’s coming off soon. While removing the driver’s side upper A-arm I found the source of the seemingly endless supply of oil running down the chassis member and steering parts: the Burman steering box. I’m not absolutely sure where it leaks, but I got it cleaned up tonight so I can see the leak more clearly. It’s probably coming off to have the various gaskets and oil seals renewed. There were no obvious cracks or play in the box as far as I could see.
There’s a drop of oil hanging from most corners on the bottom of the engine, but over the course of a week there’s just a couple of coin sized spots on a new piece of cardboard placed under it. That’s much less than my neighbour’s 1967 GTV.
Here’s a couple of rather un-exciting pictures of primed front suspension parts, and that’s how the garage is going to look like for the next few weeks. Since I don’t have enbough room to paint everything at once, I’ll have to do it in stages. The parts usually need a second layer of primer or at least some spot painting when they’re cured, so everything takes a lot of time.
Other than that, it’s soon time to order some more parts from Classic Alfa. I don’t actually have a single new tie rod end, and the ones I took off are all either leaking or otherwise unusable.
